Hermanos Unidos and Sigma Alpha Zeta initially developed the College Link Outreach Program out of the need to encourage qualified high school seniors to attend UC Santa Barbara. Yet, in our sixteenth attempt to execute CLOP and our experiences with past participants, we have recognized a need to focus our attention towards high school sophomores and juniors as well. Targeting sophomores and juniors allows us to prepare the participants prior to applying to the University of California or other institutions of higher education by allowing them to have first hand experience in something they might have never thought of or experienced before. We strive to inspire and motivate juniors and sophomores who need assistance in sparking an interest in seeking a higher education.
This year we will once again invite 120 Los Angeles High School students comprised of juniors and sophomores (60 males/60 females) from low-income communities which lack the funding, support and resources needed in order to reach a postsecondary education. These 120 students will participate in an all-expense paid, educational, motivational and beneficial program at our ocean side campus UC Santa Barbara. CLOP participants will engage in workshops geared towards their own educational needs. Participants will also experience sleeping in residential halls and eating in the dinning commons. Most importantly, CLOP participants will have an opportunity to experience a glimpse of college life and what is really like to be college student.
2015 application is due March 12, 2015 at 9:00am! If you have heard about our program at your high school ask your career/college counselor for an application. We can not wait to read your application and hopefully admit you into our program! If you have any questions feel free to email UCSBCLOP2015@gmail.com, thank you!
