GET TO KNOW THE TEAM

Our first goal is to ...

... motivate all students, those already seeking a college path and those who might need encouragement in fostering enthusiasm in receiving a higher education. We hope to support and encourage prospective students to attend a UC institution, primarily UCSB. Through motivation and promotion of the advancement of underrepresented students, we hope to increase the number of highly qualified students and help diversify the UC system. By offering students a glimpse into our own personal experiences as multicultural diversified student leaders, we can help inspire all students alike to create the desire and need to seek a higher education.

The College Link Outreach Program offers the participants the unique opportunity to participate in a gender breakout discussion, which offers students a glimpse into our own personal experience. Here, the students can ask more personal or private questions about issues they wish to address. The informality of this workshop allows students to form further connections with members of Hermanos Unidos and Sigma Alpha Zeta. Through the sharing of personal experiences regarding our own struggles toward empowering ourselves and our pursuit for a higher education, students are given the reassurance and courage they need to pursue their own dreams. We will strive to allow students to experience and uncover UCSB and college life to the fullest.

Our second goal is to educate the participants by broadening their knowledge of the many resources available within the University of California and within our student run organizations. We will present students with a variety of workshops with the help from the many departments and resources on campus. We will provide students with information on financial aid, the application processes, college life, and the A-G requirements for admission into the UC system. With the assistance from the academic departments, faculty, and staff of UC Santa Barbara, these workshops have in the past shown to be very beneficial to the participants of CLOP. By allowing the participants an opportunity to become familiar with faculty and staff, who are willing to help them in any way, shape or form, they are given the confidence and support to pursue an education at an institution of higher learning such as UCSB. By educating students of all the available resources, we can offer a step towards developing networking skills. Students will also have the opportunity to meet other students from organizations on campus, in addition to the multitude of university staff that specialize in outreach programs.
